Velamma hauls the delinquent brothers into her house and gives them an ultimatum: Either she’s calling the police, or they can tell her their parents’ phone number so Velamma can discuss their sons’ misbehavior with them. The two boys then break down, sharing with Velamma tales of poverty and parental neglect that breaks her heart. Pitying the siblings, Velamma asks what she can do to help them.
